Ingredients
Noodles: Wide egg noodles are standard, cooked al dente.
Protein: Cooked, chopped, or shredded chicken or turkey (about 2-3 cups).
Veggies: Onions, celery, carrots, and frozen peas are common.
Creamy Sauce: Butter, flour (to make a roux), milk or half-and-half, chicken/turkey broth, and sometimes cream of chicken/mushroom soup or cream cheese.
Cheese: Shredded cheddar is popular, mixed in and sprinkled on top.
Topping: Breadcrumbs (Panko or plain) mixed with melted butter for a crunchy crust.
Seasonings: Salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, parsley, and poultry seasoning.
Directions
Step 1: Combine cooked chicken and noodles and put in 2 quart baking dish.
Step 2: Combine onion, mushroom soup, chicken soup, sour cream, pepper, salt, and mushrooms. Add to chicken and noodles.
Step 3: Mix shredded cheese and cracker crumbs together with butter and spread over casserole. Sprinkle almonds on top.
Step 4: Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 35 to 40 minutes. Makes about 8 to 10 servings.
